Great Ocean Walk - Part 1, March 2010

Over Easter weekend we have decided to do a few easy days of walking down the Great Ocean road. The Great Ocean Walk to be more specific. I say easy days because we're only looking to do 2 nights and 3 days of walking, at 10kms per day, so its not going to be any stress, that is for sure. We've already started preparing what we're going to be taking and trying to keep weight down is a prime consideration. We'll be carrying lightweight 60 litre Backpacks (XE60) and splitting up the tents too. The hope is to get away with about 8-10 kilos each. We've actually cheated and organised a food and water drop for the second night to try and keep the weight down. It is a holiday weekend after all ;-) I've decided to go smelly and only take one spare set of clothing to keep weight down too, so hopefully the others can cope with it all. I'll update later in the week!

Samoa, September 2009

We recently returned from an eventful trip to Samoa. What a great place! So beautiful and the people are very friendly. There is lots to see and do, and although there is only one National Park, there are plenty of good walks you can do.

We were unfortunate enough to be there when the Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami hit but fortunate enough to have left the south coast of Upolu for the safety of Savaii Island when it did stike. Despite being in a few earthquakes before, this one was very big and very long, so quite a frightening experience! We now know that the Xtreme Earth Backpacks are earthquake proof, and they float quite well.

Himilaya Mountains - Nepal, December 2008 - January 2009

I can highly recommend a trip to Nepal. We recently trekked for 21 days around the Everest region in freezing conditions (December / January) and still loved it! The people are so friendly and welcoming, the scenary is stunning and the food...well, you can get over that!

Before going I was concerned that I wouldn't be fit enough to trek at altitudes of up to 5500m but with air so thin, you can't really push too hard and so never really worked up a sweat! There were days where we slowly ambled along a river soaking up a few rays, and others where you were really pushed to your limits climbing up 45 degree rock slopes in -4C temperatures. No matter what the day threw at you though, you could guarantee stunning scenary.

We traveled with World Expeditions with our tour leader Satish, and I couldn't recommend them highly enough!
